Villa Upekkha

The balance within Upekkha creates an equanimous love for those around us.

Equanimity

Living with equanimity is about breaking down the hierarchies that exist around oneself. Upekkha is also often described as the equanimity that dissolves away tension in the mind associated with the struggle between light and dark. This Villa embraces Upekkha with its symmetrical floor plan. Guests who visit the home experience their surroundings in the same way as the homeowner. Spaces are balanced and symmetrical accentuated with juxtapositions of high contrast materials. This Vihara’s color story is yellow: rammed earth walls set the backdrop for mustard tweeds, ochre mohair, and bronze fixtures. The landscape picks up on this through line with yellow wildflowers such as Yarrow Moonshine and Jerusalem Sage contrasted with smooth-cut geometric limestone pavers.

  • The axis of this home is defined from the moment one turns into the driveway creating a direct view through the center of the home, across the pool, and the ocean beyond.

  • The rhythm of the motor court paving sets a tone for the order that one would expect in this home.

  • The great room is at the center, marrying both equal wings of the home. To the East is the showcase kitchen and dining room sharing one beautiful space.

  • Beyond the dining room is a guest suite and the office suite, both with ensuite bathrooms and walk-in-closets.

  • To the West of the great room is a family room which would function great as a study/playroom for children. Especially because two secondary bedrooms with separate ensuite bathrooms are off of this shared space.

  • Just through the family room is the primary bedroom suite. The views from the master suite are shared with equanimity with the views from the guest suite and office on the opposite wing of the home.

  • The basement of this house contains the subterranean three-car garage. Glass walls in the garage showcase the feature wine wall of the home which is in the gallery leading into the recreation room. Just off the recreation room is a 10-person theater for the ultimate movie night experience.

  • The basement of this home is outfitted with a multitude of wellness amenities including a gym, spa, and massage room. The basement of this home includes staff facilities including a staff bedroom and laundry room.

  • Moving to the exterior amenities, the focal point of the Villa is the 60’ diameter pool with integrated spa and 80’ lap pool. An axial water feature breaks away from the lap pool and guides one through a series of terraces with lounge areas with firepits and outdoor dining areas down towards the view.

  • The meditation pavilion of this home is a tranquil retreat off these terraces, grounded with a California Sycamore.
